I am considering putting a windlass on my 38' endeavour cc. Which type should I use, where does it get located and about how much should I plan on spending?
thanks

Dear all,
It is worth your while to get a strong one, more than 1200 Watts. And later get the proper fuse next to the dashboard. Don't be tempted to put a bimetal next to the unit in the anchorbox. They rust and never work. The fuse will be the protection. Just an automatic fuse like all the others, but with the correct amperage.
After all that, the winch is still small and should be spared, helped by the engine when you go anchor up and not be used to hoist somebody into the mast.
I also recommend to mount an automatic anchor launching mechanism and up down switch. That way you can launch the anchor from the cockpit.

Larry, We also have an E38cc. We have located the windlass on a new shelf IN the anchor box. For anchoring I open the box and use the windlass that way. This is an idea from the French yachts. It puts the windlass out of sight and away from the foredeck.
I forgot how much we paid for the Lawrence Simpson Seawolf windlass. Probably in the neighbourhood of $1000.-
Success, with best regards, Fred _________________ +------------------------------------+
