Getting ready to replace the lifelines on my E37. Rather than using the typical white plastic coated wire, I'm thinking of using uncoated, 1x19 wire. Does anyone have an opinion on which wire to use? Cost? I plan on doing the work myself. Thanks in advance!

The white plastic is for aesthetics only. Also, one can argue that the covers trap dirt, salt, and moisture which would accelerate the corrosion process. Also, if corrosion is present you wouldn't be able to see it with the life lines covered. It's less of an issue in fresh water but still, most offshore racing rules specifically prohibit covered life lines. _________________ Paul Uhl

Forget the coated lifelines...If your boat is ever to be used in coastal/saltwater environments the plastic coating reduces the life of the lines. The previous owner on our boat installed oversized lines and I vcan tell you that it makes a big difference in the feeling of security and if you hang fenders etc from them it is not a strain on the life lines. This is one place where you do not try to sve boat bucks.
