any E-42 owners replace their companionway drop board with bi-fold doors?
I'm seriously thinking of doing this. I would have 4 panels that split in the middle with 2 panels going to each side, acordian style. I hate dealing with the drop board. We have 2, one screen and one plexi.
Any photos? |

What you propose can certainly be done. The doors will, when folded, reduce the width of the companionway access (something to consider if you need to stow large items below). Bi-fold doors could reduce your 'security' if you spend any time in parts of the world when the threat of boardings by unfriendly people are a problem, e.g. parts of the Caribbean. We like a nice sturdy companionway door...one we can lock from either side, if you get my drift.
best regards,
Fred

for width issues, I can unscrew the doors the very few times I need to move something large in or out.
I'm thinking that if I do need the security, I'll add a bar across the companionway that would lock everything together. Not sure yet just how but I'm sure something can be rigged for that.
My bigger concern is how much the opened doors will intrude into the cockpit, especially with the table up. I've chosen bifold doors, they'll stick out half as far as 2 doors would. measurements have shown it's not too bad but I'd love to hear from somebody who has done this. I'm suprised nobody has... |

Could they open inward as easily? Or, use pintle and gudgeon-type hinges. Easy to remove the doors and stow 'em below when not in use.

opening inward poses other problems including the overhead slider.
Removable hinges are worth considering
