Rudder Stuffing replacement

Has anyone replaced the stuffing in their rudder? Mine needs it on our E42 and I was wondering if you have to remove the Quadrant first?? Any other tips will be certainly welcomed,

To get enough room to install the packing, the quadrant will have to be removed.
