New HatchesI'm thinking of replacing the hatches on my 82 E40...........
I can get LEWMARS at a fair price...... any thoughts on this?
And since the hatches are "sitting" on a teak strip, should I varnish these strips before bedding down the hatch or just leave it bare?
Thanks!

If the Lewmars fit they make decent hatches and ports. Yes, if you plan on sealing the teak do it before hand. I'd also consider rebeding the screws under the bungs. Ours looked great but started to leak so we dug out the bungs, rebed the screws, put in new bungs and sealed the teak with Cetol. No leaks. Looks great. But we kept the old Atkins-Hoyle hatches and only replaced the gaskets.

OK, got the new LEWMARS but they didn't fit, about an inch of, couldn't make 'em work, very dissappointing, that would've been easy!
So now we're gonna rebuild the old hatches, powder-coat, replace gaskets and lense.........

High cotton can you be more specific on why the lewmars didn't work out for you ?
The Foreward hatch on our E40 has a inside to inside dimension of 24"x24". The lewmar 70 ocean hatch has a cu t out dimension of 24.5x24.5". Was wondering if this would be a issue, and if so how could it be fixed.
The other hatches are 19.5x19.5 and the lewmar ocean 65 has a cut out of 19.75x19.75". So they are only a half inch off. Why did you have dificulty using these?
Thanks
Bob
BTW new found metals is getting ready to unroll a line of hatches based on lewmar ocean series. They should be out soon per the company.
