Message for S/V StarstreamThanks S/V Starstream
Starstream, I hope you log onto the forum and read this. I no longer have your email address and wanted to thank you.
Last year you recommended that I re-power with the Yanmar 4JH. Well I did, and I can’t tell you how darn pleased I am with the engine. No more cranking, glow plugs, spraying the intake with starting fluid, swinging dead chickens on a stick, or Santeria rituals to start my engine. That old Perkins stranded me for the last time. (I do have lots of left over spare Perkins parts tho)
I don’t think the Yanmar gets to make one full revolution on the crankshaft and she is purring quietly and ready to go. Man is that great.
The fuel tank was replaced while the engine was out. The yard attempted to pull the tank up and out. The crane strapped to the top of the tank lifted the boat 6” out of the water. The tank was not coming out the bilge. They had to cut the side out of the keel and pull it that way. Epoxy was holding it in place. (original tank ’84) The keel is now stronger than ever.
Just wanted to say thanks and wish you the best in your travels.
