encapsulated keel

On my 1985 E-42, I have the encapsulated keel. It's freezing out now & the boat is on jackstands. How do I know if there was any water seeping down into the keel where the lead is? I know its too late to really do anything about it. is there something to look for in the spring to tell if there ware any issues?
I've kept the bilge pretty dry, only a tablespoon or 2 of water is evident down in the sump.

If the bilge by and large has been kept dry, that's good. Is there some reason that you're concerned? The only way I know to see if there's water in the keel is to drill a hole. That's typically what's done on the keels which would be of much more concern for water migration---it tends to run down the rudder post and begin the corrosion process inside. You can fill the hole with an Epoxy and filler mixture. West Systems has everything you'll need for that.

Can't speak to the E42, but our E40 has lead in the aft part of the keel and much more lead forward of the tanks. Drill into those and it'll be "dry". Drill too deeply in between and you are likely to get either diesel or fresh water gushing out.   :<O

new to me boat...not sure what might have gone on down there!
survey found no issues but that doesn't mean there aren't any.
Boat has not seen hard freezing before.
