E36 windlass

Greetings,
I thought I posted this a while back but don't see it.
Has anyone mounted a windlass on a E35. I have the deep chain locker and thought one might mount a vertical one inside?
Any thoughts/ideas/experiences.
Thanks,
Bob

I have a low profile windlass on my E38.  Cut the door to the chain locker in half and mounted it on the forward half.  Works very well and still plenty of access to the locker.  While the low profile makes a very nice installation and leaves a cleaner fore deck, in retrospect I would opt for the type with a drum to handle line on top of the chain gypsy for the times a powered winch comes in handy.

I am considering the same upgrade on my 1984 35.  Also with the large deep chain locker.  I have purchased a manual horizontal windlass that has a 3/8" gypsy.  My plan was to mount it on a shelf inside the locker, making sure it was forward enough to allow for the swing room for the handle.  I have not done an installation, although I have most of the materials.  I am reconsidering the same plan, but using an electric 12v windlass instead, as then I can mount the shelf at the very back of the anchor locker, leaving more space for rode and a spare anchor which we keep in the locker.  I am sure there is room for a battery under the forward part of the Vberth, and the biggest challange will be to run charging cables to the battery from the charger. (Plus the cost of an electric windlass) The other option is to go ahead and mount the shelf more forward, or have a specal handle fabricated that will allow for different swing room.  Let me know what you decide.  I will not be doing this project until about June 15th of next year.
Thanks,

E35 windlass

Thanks, Beetoven, I think this is a better plan than putting it inside as I do not have to worry about the chain drop.
