davits & swim ladder

On my E-42, I have steps all the way down the transom. The lower 2 steps really interfere with raising a dink up on the davits.

Are all E-42s rigged with 4 steps & a folding ladder? I've seen other similar transoms with a large one piece ladder and no lower steps that would interfere. I need that setup.

Looking for suggestions and pictures of a setup that works for this.

Thanks

davits & swim ladder

Our 42 has the same set of steps off the stern and we have the same problem with our dinghy.  We are going to have a railing built going down the sides of the ladder similar to the steps going down to the main saloon which should keep the dinghy off the wood.  Jan

The big problem is the dink catching the lowest step. I'm thinking of eliminating that lowest step and putting the hinged ladder up one step higher. It will short us one step down in the water. I haven't looked at that yet to see if it will be a problem. Might use a side boarding ladder for swimming.
Many boats with similar transoms have a solid ladder instead of the folding contraption I have. No steps on the lower part of the transom.

I can tell you that I would not be able to get back on the boat without the lowest step but we may have different steps as our last step is under water and doesn't interfere.  Since our last email we have had the railing built and it has solved the problem.

my ladder is a tripple folding contraption. It's attached at the 'bottom' step and folds up for storage and flips down into the water for access.

Is your ladder in the water permanently?

Can you post a picture?

Thanks

No, our ladder is one piece and the top of the ladder is attached about 3/4 down the transom and it simplys folds up from there.  Attached a little further up is a permanent step.  I didn't have much luck attaching a picture to this email but if you send me your email address I'll try to send a picture.

Your ladder can swing up to the transom gate without hitting the dink?

You can send a pic to ekcine <at> comcast.net.

Thanks
