Battery question E40We currnetly have 800 amp hours of 6 volt gel cells in 2 banks in the forward area of the engine room, stacked on top of each other in a plywood box. This makes it impossible to get to the cells of the lower batteries, and the heat in the engine space would seem to me to lower the lifetime of the batteries.
I would like to place 3 rolls 8d batteries under the aft berth instead, freeing up space in the engine room, and moving the weight aft, and possibly lower a bit.
anyone have their batteries there, and if not where? What is the amp hour capacity you have, and what type of battery?
Thanks in advance.

Battery placementI have an 87 E42 and put 2 -8D AGM and 1 Optima starting battery under the aft bunk with no problem I used a 1.5" angle alyminum to secure the batteries from shifting. Working great for 3 yrs. Bob "Circe"

Well, I after a long thought on this, have decieded to place 660 AH of battery above the T water tank, which I am cutting back to level with the upper bilge. This will now be a Diesel tank holding aprox 60 gal.
220 AH will be under the vberth to power the windless and my optima will now become a start battery in the engine room.
I am placing the batteries in a poly tank built for water, will cut the top off. This will secure them and hold any electrolyte spill.
Was going to build my own but for the money I will save time.
