|
|
I found this article on rebuilding the same Simpson Lawrence windlass that I have on my E-42 and have used it several times. It's well worth the read and it gives a good source for the bearings it takes to rebuild it. It's amazing how well the windlass works after a rebuild.
The bad thing about these windlasses is that they are on the foredeck and get salt water sprayed on them all the time, thusly, the bearings must be washed out with fresh water after almost every use to keep them working properly. Take a look at this article submitted by a Prout Catamaran owner that has the same windlass.

Phil,
thank you for posting the article. I recently bought E42 #205 and the windlass was froze up due to neglect. I took it apart, cleaned, lubricated and all is good. It is good to know that there are parts out there if needed in the future, _________________ Steve & Lynn Steakley

I would love to see pictures of your windlass configuration.
I have a SL555 manual windlass. We were going to replace it with electric until I found out that an electric is too wide to fit in the same spot.
Could anyone post pix of their electric windlass specifically on an E-42?
Thanks |
